Rocket Raccoon : Bradley Cooper Reveals Personal Tragedy That Influenced His Performance
Rocket Raccoon’s Emotional Journey in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Seven months after its release, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 still continues to tug at the heartstrings of moviegoers. Telling the origin story of Rocket Raccoon, the film takes audiences on a gut-wrenching journey throughout the character’s life. According to his voice actor, Bradley Cooper, much of the character’s pain is rooted in actual personal grief.
« That last one – I don’t know if you guys have watched it – but I cried like a baby actually, » Cooper said. « There’s this one scene where he loses his friend and that sound that Rocket makes, it’s something that I can only relate to, it’s just my voice when my father passed away, » said Cooper during a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show.
Rocket has always been a personal favorite of James Gunn, with the filmmaker stating that the character is one he identifies with most deeply.
Tone and Emotions in Filming Vol. 3
« It was great because all through shooting schedules were completely mixed up; Vol. 3 contains a lot of funny and quirky stuff from The Guardians but it’s also incredibly emotional,” Gunn said about the film’s tone in Entertainment Weekly. « It’s end game for this group of Guardians so there was a lot emotion surrounding it. »
The Guardians of Galaxy Vol. now streaming on Disney+, and available for purchase wherever movies are sold.
